Broward School Board won't commit to teacher raises

Saying they would like to give teachers a raise next school year -- but aren't willing to commit to it now -- Broward School Board members late Tuesday night voted against promising future pay increases.

They did, however, agree to consider giving the increases once negotiations begin again.

The vote was 8-1, with board member Phyllis Hope dissenting.

Contract talks for next school year are tentatively scheduled to begin May 1, although officials are trying to move that up.
