Tibco Software First Quarter Profit Up Slightly, Sales Dip

SAN FRANCISCO -- Tibco Software Inc. said late Thursday that its fiscal first-quarter profit rose slightly to $5.6 million, or 3 cents a share, from $5.5 million, or 3 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Excluding one-time items, the business software maker would have reported earnings of 9 cents a share in the latest quarter. Revenue dropped to $132.9 million from $146.6 million last year. Analysts surveyed by FactSet Research estimated a quarterly profit of 7 cents a share on revenue of $140.8 million.
