LONDON (MarketWatch) -- French drugmaker Sanofi-Aventis on Wednesday announced its second half-billion-dollar acquisition in a week as it reached a deal to buy a privately held U.S. maker of cancer drugs.
Sanofi-Aventis (FR:SAN: news , chart , profile ) said it would pay up to $500 million for BiPar Sciences, Inc., a closely held Brisbane, Calif.-maker of new cancer drugs.
BiPar makes drugs that use what are called PARP inhibitors to treat cancer. Those inhibitors prevent cancer cells from repairing their own DNA.
