Mass. gets poor grades on air pollution

Despite an alarming number of days with heavy ozone-related pollution and high particle-pollution levels in most of its counties, Massachusetts missed the cut in the American Lung Association’s annual lists of the 25 most polluted regions of the country.

Still, the state is far from pristine, in terms of its air quality, according to the ALA.

Eleven of the state’s 12 counties registered failing grades in the category of ozone pollution. Ozone is a gas molecule that is a primary ingredient in smog and is harmful to breath, according to the ALA.
