Two students from Long Island schools were named Presidential Scholars for 2009, the U.S. Department of Education announced Monday.

Syosset High School senior Mary R. Awadallah and Grace F. Chao, of Woodside, Queens, a senior St. Mary's High School in Manhasset, were selected among the 141 recipients from all 50 states, Puerto Rico and from a pool of students living aboard, education officials said.
