If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, many mothers should be pleased. A recent New York Times/CBS News poll found close to a majority of women saying they emulate their own mothers in their approach to parenting.
At the same time, about three-quarters of all Americans, including both fathers and mothers, said motherhood is a tougher job today than it was when they were younger. Only 5 percent said being a mother today is easier, and 20 percent said it was about the same as when they were children.
