Transocean promotes Rosa to CFO job

* Shares down almost 4 percent

* Appointment effective Sept. 1

HOUSTON, May 21 (Reuters) - Transocean Ltd (RIG.N) named onThursday the head of its European and African unit, RicardoRosa, to be chief financial officer.

Rosa, 52, succeeds Gregory Cauthen, 51, who said last monthhe planned to leave the company. The appointment is effectiveSept. 1.

Rosa will be based in Geneva and will report to RobertLong, Transocean's chief executive officer.
