American grandees 'were thrilled to spy for Castro'

AN American diplomat from one of Washington’s grandest families and his wife have been charged with spying for Cuba after becoming infatuated with Fidel Castro.

For three decades, Walter Kendall Myers, 72, and his wife Gwendolyn, 71, apparently enjoyed the frisson of spying for the Cuban regime, passing on secrets by short-wave radio, meeting agents in supermarket aisles and travelling under false names to spend an evening with Castro.
