I knew George Tiller. A God loving, courageous humanist, he never intended to devote his medical practice to abortion. His life course changed upon the death of his father, also a physician. Going through his father's papers, George discovered letter upon letter from grateful patients. It was an epiphany: he was shocked to discover that his father had been performing illegal abortions, astonished to realize the extent to which untenable pregnancy threatens women and amazed at the magnitude of rescue that abortion represents.
