European elections - results and reaction

UK regional results: North East Lab 1, Con 1, Lib Dem 1.

21.51 Daniel Finkelstein, Chief Leader Writer of The Times, says he is very surprised and rather impressed with Labour's performance in the North East. The Conservative vote was only up 1 per cent, with UKIP up 3 per cent. Surely it's going to get much, much worse for Labour.

21.45 Labour topping the poll in the North East - their vote was down nine per cent, but that was a glimmer of good news for the Government.
