The newly-elected MEP for the North West of England was bundled through the crowd and into a car by bodyguards after his speech was interrupted by around 80 demonstrators.
Mr Griffin, who received a glancing blow from one of the hurled eggs, accused police of failing to provide sufficent protection and said it was a "very sad day for British democracy".
"We do have a problem with this organised mob which is backed by all three main political parties. It's a disgrace. They clearly had orders," he said afterwards.
