AEP buying solar energy from Ohio facility

American Electric Power Company Inc. has signed on to buy the solar energy output from an in-the-works northwest Ohio facility as it continues a push to boost its renewable energy portfolio.

The Columbus-based utility on Monday said its AEP Ohio subsidiary signed a 20-year agreement with Wyandot Solar LLC, a subsidiary of Boulder, Colo.-based developer juwi solar inc.. The company plans to begin building a 10 megawatt solar facility in Wyandot County in November that could be up and running a year from now.
