PARIS -- Nobody expected the Middle East to make the hefty aircraft orders of better times at this year's Paris Air Show, but the industry could still rely on Qatar to bring some light to the event's gloomy proceedings when it announced it was buying 24 planes from Airbus.

Representing the biggest order so far at the show, which opened on Monday for trade visitors, the deal is worth a reported $2 billion.
