Ruby Townes stood outside the Apollo Theater, wiping away tears Friday and recalling a night 40 years gone. James Brown was the headliner, and his opening act was The Jackson 5.
"I think I paid $5," said a wistful Townes, 69, recalling that magical musical evening. "Michael Jackson was beautiful. He was beautiful."
The long-time Harlem resident was one of hundreds of Jackson fans gathered outside the historic 125th St. theater to mourn and remember the late suddenly departed King of Pop.
