Fifteen-year-old Abby Tyler died in hospital at the weekend, two days after she was wounded and her father was killed as they closed their family's furniture and appliance shop near downtown Gaffney.
Investigators believe the killings are linked and the search is on for a suspected serial killer.
Residents have cancelled Independence Day events and are arming themselves.
At a news conference in Gaffney, the town sheriff told reporters: "Yes, we have a serial killer."
