Around 70 firefighters were called to tackle the fire, which broke out just after midnight on Sunday morning at the Balmoral bar in Edinburgh.
Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue (LBFR) said the two officers were part of a team wearing breathing apparatus which had gone inside the bar. When the floor collapsed, other firefighters rushed to help.
Brian Allaway, the brigade's chief fire officer, said: "Tragically despite the efforts of his colleagues, one of these firefighters lost his life

A TRAGIC firefighter was hailed a hero last night after he laid down his life to save residents from a pub inferno. Brave Ewan Williamson, 35, was crushed when the floor collapsed as he battled the ferocious blaze at Edinburghs Balmoral Bar.

More than 150 firefighters are battling a brush fire that broke out around 1 p.m. in the Sepulveda Pass near Getty Center, which has been evacuated. Mount St. Mary's College in Brentwood was also evacuated.
