MADRID - A Spanish hospital says a medical error has claimed the life of a baby who was born prematurely to a woman who was the first person in this country to die from swine flu.

The infant boy was delivered June 29 via Cesarean section as his 28-week-pregnant mother's condition worsened, and she died the next day. Doctors later said the baby did not have swine flu.

Gregorio Maranon Hospital managing director Antonio Barba told a news conference the child died Monday because of an error by nursing staff.
