WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Judge Sonia Sotomayor on Tuesday defended her ruling in a hotly contested 2008 case in which she backed a city's decision to reject results of a firefighter promotion exam because few minorities qualified for promotions.
She said the case -- Ricci v. DeStefano in the city of New Haven, Connecticut -- was based strictly on well-established legal precedent.
