Pressure was growing last night to commemorate the death of Britain's oldest surviving First World War veteran with a national thanksgiving service.
Henry Allingham, who became the world's oldest man only last month, died on Saturday aged 113.
He is to have a family funeral with military honours later this month,but yesterday MPs called for a national celebration of his life.
