Barnes & NobleInc. launched an eBookstore that plans to offer electronic books for platforms including the Plastic Logic eReader device as well as Apple Inc.'s iPhone and iPod Touch, BlackBerry smartphones and most Windows and Mac laptops or full-sized desktop computers.

The new eBookstore is the latest swipe taken at Amazon.comInc. and its lead position in electronic books through its Kindle ebook reading device.
