A host of colleagues, former aides, and family members are expected to gather this evening for a memorial service celebrating the life and legacy of Senator Edward M. Kennedy at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum overlooking Dorchester Bay.
The service at the museum is billed as "A Celebration of Life," and will include many figures from Washington.
Senator John McCain, the Arizona Republican who was close to Kennedy and worked with him in an unsuccessful effort to overhaul the nation's immigration system, will speak, as will Senator Orrin Hatch, the Utah Republican who helped Kennedy pass a $5.7 billion expansion of national service programs this year. Both men attended the April ceremony where President Obama signed the bill into law.
