UK extends vehicle scrappage scheme

BRIGHTON, England, Sept 28 (Reuters) - Britain is extendingits car scrappage scheme to cover an additional 100,000vehicles, Business Secretary Peter Mandelson said on Monday.

Introduced earlier this year, the scheme gives drivers 2,000pounds to trade in cars more than 10 years old for a new model.Half of the money comes from the government and the other halffrom the industry.

"Today, I am extending our popular car scrappage scheme withextra money for an additional 100,000 cars and vans," Mandelsontold ruling Labour's annual party conference.
