In what was a clear message to the Prime Minister to change his strategy of contrasting his actions through the recession with the Conservatives, the Business Secretary told Labour delegates that the party needed to offer more.
For the first time Lord Mandelson, a man once despised by Labour traditionalists, was cheered and lauded as a saviour of the party. After a lacklustre start to the conference he made an impassioned plea for the party not to give up the fight.
