In diverse New Jersey district, voters' spirits lifted

NEWARK, N.J. -- Blue skies were lifting the spirits of voters Tuesday in this section of urban New Jersey, the solidly Democratic spine of the state where analysts say Gov. Jon Corzine (D) needs to secure enough votes to protect him against the tide of discontent elsewhere.

At the South Street School, a polling place in an area known as "Ironbound" because of the railroad trestles and factories that once bordered it, 91 people had voted by 2 p.m.
