Designated hitter Hideki Matsu has driven in six runs in his first three at-bats staking the New York Yankees to a 7-1 lead over the Philadelphia Phillies after five innings in New York.

The Yankees lead the best-of-seven series three games to two. A victory would give the Yankees their 27th World Series title ? the most of any major-league team.

Matsui hit a two-run homer off Phillie starter Pedro Martinez in the first inning and later followed that with a two-run single. He later hit a two-run double.
