CAIRO -- Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, wrapping up a weeklong mission to the broader Middle East, shrugged off criticism of her diplomatic tactics and said she made important "advances" in her efforts to broker Arab-Israeli peace and promote stronger U.S. ties with the Islamic world.
Mrs. Clinton's position received qualified support Wednesday from Egypt's leaders, who held three hours of talks in Cairo on the Mideast peace process with the top U.S. diplomat and her advisers.
