LAWNDALE, Calif. -- Los Angeles County sheriff's officials say a deputy has been shot and wounded in Lawndale.
Deputy Byron Ward says the deputy was shot in the back or shoulder Tuesday night and taken to a hospital. Ward says the deputy is expected to survive. A suspect also was shot and wounded.
Further details weren't immediately available.
Lawndale is about 20 miles south of downtown Los Angeles.
