Technology junkies will get their first taste of the newest device taking aim at the Apple iPhone today when Verizon stores across the country open early to release the Motorola Droid.
Tech critics and analysts are hesitant to say the Droid itself will overtake the popular iPhones. But the Android 2.0 software developed by Google Inc. that powers the new phone should compete well with Apple, especially because it is expected to be used on a variety of phones and networks in the next year, they said.
