NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--U.S. stocks traded slightly lower late Friday morning after a brief push into the green, as the U.S. unemployment rate surged to a 26-year high.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average recently traded down 10 points, or 0.1%, to 9999, just below the psychologically significant 10000 level. The index traded off about 70 points at the open, then pared its declines quickly, only to return to the red when the early morning volatility subsided. Declines in the index and the broader market were led by financials, including JPMorgan Chase (JPM) and Bank of America (BAC).
