Geithner Says 'Continued Policy Support' Needed for Recovery

Nov. 7 (Bloomberg) -- Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithnersaid the U.S. economy requires “continued policy support” torecover from a financial and economic crisis that has pushedunemployment to its highest level since 1983.

“Yesterday’s jobs numbers in the United States reinforcedthat this is still a very tough economic environment,” Geithnersaid in a statement after a meeting today of finance ministersand central bankers from the Group of 20 nations. The U.S.unemployment rate jumped to 10.2 percent in October, asemployers eliminated another 190,000 jobs, according to a LaborDepartment report.
