Shaken by shooting, neighbors struggle to remember alleged killer

TUKWILA -- Massive and unremarkable, the Terrace Apartments was subdued Saturday as residents displaced by the police shooting the night before returned to their homes.

It was at the 188-unit apartment block that the man alleged to have gunned down Seattle Police Officer Tim Brenton was shot up by detectives attempting to contact him about the slaying.

Christopher John Monfort, who remained at Harborview Medical Center on Saturday evening, was an enigmatic man making his home in an apartment complex marked by anonymity, neighbors said.
