TAWANG(Arunachal Pradesh): As the last rays of the sun fade over the mountains, themajestic, white Tawang monastery glows with thousands of electric and butterlamps, almost matching the shining stars in the rarified Tibetan sky in thenorth. From Sunday, the 1681-built gompha will play host to the Dalai Lama forfour days as it did when the Tibetan spiritual and temporal leader fled Tibetafter his country was annexed by China in 1959, and four more timesthereafter.
