WAUKESHA, Wis. - The Waukesha County sheriff's departmentsays a deputy shot and wounded an inmate in a hospital after theinmate threatened him with a knife.
Forty-three-year-old Steven P. Lettenberger was in criticalcondition Friday. A hospital spokeswoman said Saturday she had nolisting for Lettenberger, speculating that his information had beenrendered confidential.
The sheriff's department says Lettenberger was at the hospitalfor treatment Friday afternoon when he somehow armed himself with aknife. Authorities say he tried to attack the deputy who wasguarding him.
