Suspected Letterman Blackmailer Confident and Optimistic About Case

Robert "Joe" Halderman, the accused blackmailer in the David Letterman extortion case, is confident and optimistic about his case, said a friend and former co-worker who spoke with Halderman Monday night.

"He has a really good lawyer and he really thinks he is going to do well with this case," Dr. Bob Arnot, who worked with Halderman at CBS for 14 years, told "Good Morning America" today.

Halderman, 51, is expected in court today for the first time since he pleaded not guilty to charges that he blackmailed Letterman, 62, for $2 million in exchange for remaining silent about Letterman's affairs with staff members.
