Obama Heads for Japan Seeking to Reassert US Role in Asia

Nov. 13 (Bloomberg) -- President Barack Obama arrives inJapan today to start an eight-day swing through Asia, meetingwith major U.S. creditors and trading partners to assure them heintends to maintain American influence in the region.

After a meeting and news conference with Japanese PrimeMinister Yukio Hatoyama tonight in Tokyo, Obama will deliver aspeech tomorrow intended to articulate his vision for a Pacificalliance that focuses on geopolitical and economic issuesincluding trade, climate change and halting the spread ofnuclear weapons.
