Steven Mo of Pearland has been named a 2010 Rhodes Scholar.
Mo, a 21-year-old student at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is one of two Texans and 32 scholars nationally to earn the prestigious academic honors.
The native of Taiwan is studying biology at MIT, where he is expected to graduate in 2010, according to his Facebook profile.
The scholarship will pay all expenses for up to four years of study at Oxford University in England.
More than 800 students in the United States applied.
The selection criteria includes high academic achievement, character, a spirit of unselfishness, respect for others, potential for leadership and physical vigor. About 80 scholars are selected worldwide annually.
