Forget fingerprint dusting. Crime-scene drama fans might soon see a new forensic technique debut on their favorite TV series: hand-germ testing.

According to a study published online Monday, bacteria that live on a person's hands could one day accurately identify that individual. This could come in handy to track down a criminal who has worn gloves, removed prints and other personal physical evidence, or touched surfaces such as fabric on which a fingerprint wouldn't show up, the researchers said.

It just goes to show … it's always something. If it isn't invasive snakes, it's invasive snails. SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico-The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is warning consumers in Puerto Rico that two locally produced hand sanitizers contain high levels of bacteria.

The agency says "Bee-Shield Hand Sanitizer" with Aloe Vera and "MD Quality Hand Sanitizer" are distributed only in the U.S. Caribbean territory.

The FDA warned Wednesday that the Burkholderia cepacia bacteria can cause serious infections in humans when the hand sanitizers are used on skin with cuts or abrasions.

Kroger Co. is recalling two onion soup and dip mixes because of possible salmonella contamination.

The grocer said an ingredient in its Kroger Onion Soup & Dip Mix and Kroger Beefy Onion Soup & Dip Mix may have been contaminated with the bacteria.

The mixes were sold in a number of states and are being recalled from its Kroger, Dillons, Fry's, King Soopers, City Market, Smith's, Food 4 Less, Jay C, Scott's, Owen's, Baker's, Gerbes, Hilander and Pay Less stores.

A girl scout cookie recall was announced today by girl scout cookie maker Little Brownies Baker due to an off smell and taste for some cookies.

According to the Better Business Bureau, lemon chalete cremes cookies have been recalled due to complaints, though they are reportedly safe to eat.

The Louisville, Kentucky-based company said that no bacteria was found in the cookies and they are simply "not up to our quality standards."

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Children under the age of 5 who already got four doses of Pfizer Inc's Prevnar vaccine should get a fifth booster dose of the new version that covers more strains of pneumonia-causing bacteria, the U.S. Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices said on Wednesday.

The committee, which advises the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, already recommended that unvaccinated infants get the 13-strain version of the new vaccine, which the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved just minutes before the committee's vote.

SAN FRANCISCO-New tests by Consumer Reports have found high levels of bacteria in packaged leafy greens that could indicate unsanitary conditions. Tests conducted by an outside lab found that 39 percent of the samples contained levels of coliform considered higher than acceptable by industry consultants. Some 23 percent of the samples contained Enterocccous bacteria.

The magazine said Tuesday that while those bacteria do not generally make people sick, they could signal inadequate sanitation.

London, England (CNN) -- Procter & Gamble is recalling Vicks Sinex nasal spray in the United States, Britain and Germany after finding it contained bacteria, the company said.

Procter & Gamble said it announced the voluntary recall after finding the bacteria in a small amount of product made at a plant in Germany.

There have been no reports of illness from the bacteria, but it could cause serious infections for people with weakened immune systems or those with chronic lung conditions such as cystic fibrosis, Procter & Gamble said late Thursday.

A high-fat, high-sugar diet does more than pump calories into your body. It also alters the composition of bacteria in your intestines, making it easier to gain weight and harder to lose it, research in mice suggests. And the changeover can happen in as little as 24 hours, according to a report Wednesday in the new journal Science Translational Medicine.
