CHICAGO - Republicans hoping to capture President Barack Obama's old Senate seat will know Tuesday which Democrat will try to stand in their way, as the parties prepare to battle for one of the most coveted seats in the country.

A tough fight also is expected in two key Congressional races in Illinois, including an open seat from the Chicago suburbs that Republican U.S. Rep. Mark Kirk gave up to run for Senate.

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. -A White House official says President Barack Obama will be skipping jury duty after being summoned in Illinois.

The administration official confirmed to The Associated Press on Sunday that the president alerted the court weeks ago that he won't be able to make it. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because she was not authorized to speak publicly.

Obama was summoned for jury duty at the Bridgeview courthouse in suburban Chicago starting Monday. The summons had arrived at the Obama home on Chicago's South Side.

MARKHAM, Ill. (AP) - Two decades after customers clamored to buy cocaine from a teenager named John Cappas, they're lined up again to buy what he has to sell: Hot dogs.

The one-time "drug kingpin," as the newspapers called him in the late 1980s, this summer became an owner of a hot dog stand called Johnny's WeeNee Wagon.

It's a few Chicago suburbs and a world away from where he ran the drug empire that made him $25,000 a week - enough to buy a house, fast cars and a necklace that spelled "Spoiled Brat" in diamonds to drape around his Playboy bunny girlfriend.

In a bright red building that looks like a barn with a man-sized statue of a hot dog wearing an American flag out front, he sells hot dogs, gyros, burgers, and now for the first time since the place opened in 1955, french fries.

Four Chicago suburban areas top "best places to live" lists published today by Money Magazine.

Among the top 100 "best places to live" are Batavia at No. 56 and Buffalo Grove at No. 65, selected for "great schools, affordable homes, low crime" and family appeal, according to Money Magazine's description.
