California's Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is hitting back at members of his party for attacking President Barack Obama's economic recovery plan.

Schwarzenegger says last year's $862 billion stimulus plan is "terrific" and has created 150,000 jobs in his state and says that Republicans who criticize the recovery measure while seeking stimulus dollars for their states and congressional districts are playing politics.

WASHINGTON—An early progress report on President Barack Obama's economic recovery plan overstates by thousands the number of jobs created or saved through the stimulus program, a mistake that White House officials promise will be corrected in future reports.

The government's first accounting of jobs tied to the $787 billion stimulus program claimed more than 30,000 positions paid for with recovery money. But that figure is overstated by least 5,000 jobs, according to an Associated Press review of a sample of stimulus contracts.

President Barack Obama's economic recovery plan will be good for Michigan even as it pushes the federal government further into debt, Gov. Jennifer Granholm said.

Granholm, a Democrat and close ally of the president, defended his program during a town hall meeting Wednesday in Traverse City as anti-tax protesters waved placards outside. The governor is making a series of stops around the state to discuss what the initiative will mean for Michigan, where the recession is hitting especially hard because of the auto industry's woes.

President Barack Obama is a youthful, well educated son of an immigrant, and Republicans are clearly trying to get some of his magic to rub off on them, so they asked Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal-the youthful, well educated son of immigrants-to give the response to Obama's speech last night. Good idea to have a fresh face given the GOP brand is in such disrepair. The problem is that he gave the same old arguments Republicans and conservatives have been giving us for a very long time.

There's been a lot of bitching and moaning in the progressive blogosphere about the huge business tax cuts that are supposed to be contained in President Obama's economic recovery plan.

In fairness to all, the negotiations took place behind closed doors, leaving us little solid information on which to base opinions. And over the years, we've had good reason to be wary of backroom deals in Congress.

WASHINGTON — President-elect Barack Obama is well on his way to finding the silver lining in the economic storm he is inheriting.

The two-year, $825 billion economic recovery plan taking shape in Congress includes billions of dollars for renewable energy and a national electricity grid to distribute it, lower taxes for all Americans but the affluent, computerized medical records and modernized schools.
