Corey mourned his friend at T-Man Tattoo, a San Fernando Valley ink shop. The art features the numbers, 222. On his blog, in his open letter to Haim, Corey said correctly, "Nobody will understand the magic of 22/222."

Chicago Bulls All-Star point guard Derrick Rose missed Friday's game at Miami and is listed as day-to-day after an MRI confirmed he has a sprained left wrist.

During Thursday's loss to the Magic, Rose was driving the lane late in the first quarter and ran into Orlando center Dwight Howard.

The reigning NBA Rookie of the Year fell hard to the floor and clutched his hand and back before making his way to the free throw line. He made 1-of-2 from the stripe before exiting the game for good.

ORLANDO (AP) - Dwight Howard (FSY) insists he didn't intend to hurt Derrick Rose (FSY). He was just protecting the basket.

So when Rose drove the lane hard and tried to finish over the towering center for the second time this season, the man who goes by "Superman" again delivered on his nickname.

Carter scored a team-high 25 points in Sunday's hard-fought 96-94 win over the defending champion Los Angeles Lakers in the opener of the residency, while double-double machine Dwight Howard muscled his way to 15 points and 16 rebounds for the Southeast Division-leading Magic, who are second in the conference standings and 18-5 in their previous 23 games. Howard leads the league with 50 double-doubles this season.

Out on the court, the Magic showed it can bite.

ORLANDO, Florida (AFP) – Orlando overcame a lackluster performance from Dwight Howard to notch a 96-80 NBA victory over Miami, spoiling Dwyane Wade's return from injury for the Heat.

Rashard Lewis scored 22 points, and Vince Carter added 17 Sunday, while Howard - who had 20 straight double-doubles - was hindered by foul trouble and finished with just seven points and five rebounds.

JJ Redick added 15 points for the Magic, who beat the Heat for the first time in three games this season.

With the Rockets slump worsening, Kevin Martin heard his first smattering of boos.

He had missed his first seven shots. The Magic had taken their lead to as much as 27. The first hints of discontent began to slip from the Toyota Center crowd.

NEW ORLEANS - The Celtics' bad second-half habits surfaced again last night. Three days after a third-quarter collapse against Orlando, the Celtics slumped after halftime in a 93-85 loss to the New Orleans Hornets.

Against the Magic, the Celtics sustained a 28-2 thumping spanning the final two quarters. This time, they were outscored, 22-3, over a period of 5:26 in the third.

'Right now, we're struggling on both ends of the court,'' said captain Paul Pierce. 'Turnovers are obviously a factor. Offensive rebounds in the third quarter, we gave up offensive rebounds for threes and they were able to get back in the game and take the lead. That's been our Achilles' heel.''

The Washington Wizards return to the court after a slightly longer break than anticipated in tonight's clash with the Charlotte Bobcats from Time Warner Cable Arena.

Washington has not played since posting an impressive one-point win on the road over Southeast Division leader Orlando on Friday. The Wizards were scheduled to host Atlanta the following day, but the contest had to be postponed due to the massive snowstorm that hit the Mid-Atlantic area on Saturday.

Vince Carter and Dwight Howard each scored nine points in that period to erase an 11-point halftime deficit, and the visiting Magic beat the Boston Celtics 96-89 yesterday.

"In a matter of 3 days, I've seen the worst quarter we've had since I've been here in 3 years and the best now in 3 years," Orlando coach Stan Van Gundy said.

On Friday night, the Magic blew a 21-point lead and lost to the Washington Wizards 92-91 after being outscored 39-17 in the third quarter. Yesterday, they outscored the Celtics 36-11 in that period.

WALTHAM, Mass.-Boston Celtics scoring leader Paul Pierce hopes to return from an injured left foot Sunday against the Magic.

Pierce, who was hurt in Monday in a 99-88 win at the Washington Wizards, could return against Orlando after missing just two games with a strained left foot.

Pierce watched from the bench in street clothes Wednesday night as the Celtics beat the Miami Heat 107-102. He is not expected to play when Boston plays its second of three consecutive home games Friday night against the New Jersey Nets.

BOSTON - Even when things are going well for the Celtics -- and they most certainly are not right now -- Paul Pierce looks forward to the Lakers' annual visit to Boston.

"It's always a big deal. It is for me," the Los Angeles native and longtime Celtics forward said. "We feel like it's a must-win. These are teams we're going to see in the playoffs so we're giving them psychological edge right now. That's not something that you're going to be able to turn on once the playoffs start. So we've got to turn it around right now."

Lewis led the Magic with 23 points, and Dwight Howard overcame early foul trouble to finish with 19 points and 10 rebounds, including 11 points in the fourth quarter.
