The big advantage to buying the Droid by Motorola at Best Buy is that it turns Verizon's $100 mail-in rebate into an "instant rebate." You don't have to wait six weeks to possibly receive a debit card in the mail, or possibly have to argue with a recalcitrant mail-in rebate company over the phone.

Many people are finding this compelling. Two Best Buy salespeople we spoke to said they saw massive demand yesterday, and while they said their stores are getting plenty of Droids for pre-order, they were worried about availability for people buying on Nov. 6.
