CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) - Joe Blanton used a mix of fastballs and changeups to shut down the Detroit Tigers, leading the Philadelphia Phillies to a 4-0 victory Thursday.

Blanton has focused solely on the fastball-changeup combination in his first two spring starts before he incorporates breaking pitches into his repertoire. So far the results have been promising: Blanton held the Tigers to three singles in four innings of work.

Marlins outfield prospect Mike Stanton hit a two-run homer off Mets relief pitcher Bobby Parnell in the 10th on Friday to give the Marlins the lead.

Niese gave up a run in 2 2-3 innings and struck out five. He walked two and gave up three singles. Marlins center fielder Cameron Maybin walked, stole second and reached third on a first-inning grounder, but Niese stranded him by striking out Jorge Cantu.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) -- Evan Lysacek of the United States won the men's figure skating gold medal at the Vancouver Olympics on Thursday, upsetting defending champion Evgeni Plushenko of Russia.

Daisuke Takahashi finished third and became the first Japanese man to win a figure skating medal at the Olympic Games. Lysacek is the first U.S. man to win the Olympic gold since Brian Boitano in 1988.

WHISTLER, British Columbia - As flags flew at half-staff in honor of the luger from the Republic of Georgia who died training here last week, the German Felix Loch became the youngest men's singles luge athlete to win a gold medal.

Loch, 20, son of the German luge coach Norbert Loch, finished his four runs in a combined 3 minutes 13.085 seconds, after establishing a dominating lead. David Moeller, also of Germany, won silver with a finish of 3:13.764.
