Once the leaves start changing colors and those Halloween stores pop up in every abandoned storefront in the city, we're ready to plan a party and bust out the apple cider. But aside from all the urban ways to celebrate fall, sometimes it's best to take a trip to a slice of autumn in the 'burbs.

If you agree, fill up the gas tank, wave goodbye to the crowded metropolis and check out our favorite pumpkin patches and apple orchards. And for those who'd rather not pack up the family car and head out of town, we threw in one cool event right here in the big city.

Rain is set to return to many areas today as typical Bank Holiday weather arrives with a vengeance.

Although southern regions could remain dry, below-average temperatures will make conditions more suited to sweaters than suncream.

Parks, beaches and beauty spots were thronged with crowds over the weekend as families made the most of bright and relatively dry conditions.

The Midlands, East Anglia and southern counties will be mostly dry but could have 'the odd spot here or there', he added.

Temperatures across the country are expected to reach a belowaverage maximum of 14c (57f) - and many areas will only touch 12c(54f).
