Is New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport cursed?

It is consistently ranks as one of the worst airports in America. Air travelers go to great lengths to avoid it. One of its runways is closed, adding to the misery. And now, it's at the epicenter of more bad publicity — this time from an air traffic controller who allegedly let his children radio instructions to pilots.

"In years past, when I flew into JFK, I had to worry about inclement weather, delays and cancellation, ice on wings and birds getting too close to the engines," said Lisa Hanock-Jasie, an online consultant in New York. "Now I gotta worry about kid air controllers? Geesh."

Flights are routinely canceled because of weather delays or mechanical problems, but passengers trying to fly from Rochester, N.Y., to Atlanta Thursday found their trip canceled for another reason: the flight attendants reportedly got into a fistfight.

Passengers told local news channel YNN Rochester that the flight, a Delta Connection flight from Rochester, N.Y., to Atlanta, was canceled after the two female flight attendants started fighting.

NASA officials have postponed the upcoming launch of the space shuttle Discovery until April 5 at the earliest because cold weather in sunny Florida has prevented workers at Kennedy Space Center from processing the spacecraft in time for a scheduled March 18 liftoff.

'The Space Shuttle Program has specific rules against transporting the shuttle when temperatures are below a certain level for extended periods. The vehicle has thrusters with seals that could leak under cold temperatures,' noted NASA in a release announcing the move.

Feb. 17 (Bloomberg) -- Lindsey Vonn of the U.S. won a gold medal in the women's downhill at the Winter Olympics today, overcoming a bruised shin and days of weather delays.

Vonn, the World Cup downhill ski champion the past two seasons and winner of all but one of six races in the event this campaign, finished in 1 minute, 44.19 seconds at the course in Whistler, British Columbia.

ALBANY, N.Y. -- A nasty rain storm is filling rivers and streams, delaying flights and blowing debris off buildings in the Northeast.

The National Weather Service has issued flood warnings in New York and Pennsylvania. Airports from Philadelphia to New York City are showing severe weather delays. There also are offshore storm warnings.

High winds sent construction debris fluttering to the streets in New York City and Jersey City, N.J. Some streets have been closed in lower Manhattan and light rail service was halted in Jersey City.
