BALTIMORE - Baltimore police say two officers have been shot during a traffic stop and they are in serious but stable condition. The suspected shooter was killed by return fire.

Spokesman Anthony Guglielmi (goo-lee-EHL'-mee) says the shooting happened about 12:21 a.m. Sunday.

The officers had pulled over the suspected shooter for an unknown traffic offense. When the officers approached the car, the suspect pulled out a gun and shot one officer in the face and the other in the arm.

Police say a bomb planted on a bicycle exploded as a police van passed by in the city of Quetta, killing at least 2 people and wounding 12.

A senior police official says the bomb was apparently detonated by remote control. The police van was badly damaged in Sunday's attack, but it was not immediately clear if any police officers were among the casualties.

Quetta is the capital of the insurgency-hit southwestern province of Balochistan, where the government has been fighting ethnic Balochi militants.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State University says an overnight shooting at a campus maintenance building left one of its employees dead and two others wounded.

The shooting was first reported at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday. University police say a suspect was taken into custody after heavily armed officers searched the area, which is near the school's massive football stadium.

University Police Chief Paul Denton says one of the wounded employees is in critical condition and the other is in stable condition.

KIGALI, Rwanda - A Rwandan police spokesman says 16 people have been wounded in the second wave of grenade attacks to hit the capital in two weeks.

Police spokesman Eric Kayiranga said Friday that two people were critically wounded in the blasts late Thursday. Eyewitness Karim Habimana said he saw someone hurl a grenade from a speeding car next to a bus stop in the suburb of Kimironko.

Kayiranga could not say if the recent attacks were related to three Feb. 19 grenade attacks, also in Kigali. Those attacks killed one person and injured 30.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A man shot and wounded two security officers at an entrance to the Pentagon near a busy commuter rail station on Thursday before being fatally wounded in a shootout, officials and media reports said.

The gunman, identified in media reports as 36-year-old John Patrick Bedell of California, was apparently trying to gain entry to the giant U.S. Defense Department headquarters, Pentagon police chief Richard Keevill told reporters.

WASHINGTON - A gunman coolly drew a weapon from his pocket and opened fire at a security checkpoint into the Pentagon on Thursday in a point-blank attack that wounded two police officers before the suspect was fatally shot.

ISLAMABAD -- A suicide car bomber attacked a police station Saturday in northwest Pakistan, killing three people and wounding about two dozen.

The blast also toppled a mosque next to the police station in Karak in North West Frontier Province, said Ajmal Khan, a government official. Both police and civilians were among the wounded.

The injured were transported to a nearby hospital where some were listed in critical condition.

SeaWorld San Diego canceled its Shamu show Thursday for the second consecutive day after a trainer at its sister theme park in Florida was fatally attacked by a killer whale.

San Diego park officials had not yet determined whether Friday's show would be canceled. But the park has worked to improve safety after several incidents over the last three decades in which trainers were injured, officials said.

Police said a 23-year-old man stormed into the vocational school shortly after 10am.

He stabbed the teacher, who died of his wounds, police added.

An alert was put out on the school tannoy system as authorities feared a repeat of the Winnenden school massacre in March last year which left 16 people, including the gunman, dead.

Authorities spoke of an attempt to attack other teachers but it is not known if any other people were harmed.

SUWANEE, Ga. - Police in Georgia say a man stabbed his estranged wife to death in a Walmart parking lot where they met to exchange custody of their two children.

A Suwanee police news release says the couple began arguing Sunday outside of the store in the city about 30 miles northeast of Atlanta.

Phillip Chad Dunn, 28, of Lawrenceville stabbed his wife during the argument then stabbed himself, according to the release. Police say Shelley Dyan Dunn, 27, of Buford, died of her wounds at a nearby hospital.

Two other men -- also wearing hooded sweatshirts -- were with the gunman when the shooting took place at about 12:30 p.m. in front of about 100 people at New Gethsemane Church in Christ in Richmond, police Sgt. Bisa French said.

Violence across Afghanistan last year reached its worst levels since the war began in late 2001, despite significant increases in foreign troops. The latest attack came little more than a week after brazen assaults in Kabul killed five people.
