The London Fire Brigade (LFB) is the statutory fire and rescue service for London, England. It is run by the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority and is the third-largest fire service in the world with nearly 7,000 staff, of which 5,800 are operational firefighters and officers. London Fire Brigade Staff] In October 2007, Ron Dobson was appointed as the Commissioner for Fire and Emergency Planning, which includes the position of Chief Fire Officer. Mr. Dobson took over from Sir Ken Knight who had been commissioner since 2003.
In 2007/08 it attended 144,753 emergency calls, including 32,886 fires of which 13,993 were of a serious nature, making it one of the busiest fire brigades in the world. In 2007/08, it received 9,750 hoax calls, the highest number of all the fire brigades in the United Kingdom, but only mobilised to 2,765 of them.
