North Florida refers to the northernmost part of the U.S. state of Florida, including those counties which border the states of Alabama and Georgia.[citation needed] It is differentiated from Central Florida and South Florida in many ways, most notably culture and climate.[citation needed] North Florida shares the climate of the Deep South, as opposed to the semi-tropical climate of south Florida, meaning that is has hotter summers and cooler winters than the peninsular part of the state.[citation needed] With the exception of urban enclaves, it is notably significantly more rural and politically conservative than the rest of the state, again bearing a far stronger resemblance to the Deep South states of Alabama and Georgia that it borders, as opposed to the more progressive, diverse, and densely-populated urban metropolises of central and south Florida.[citation needed] North Florida, with the exception of the Tallahassee metro area, votes solidly conservative in elections, and retains the fundamentalist Christian cultural influences found in the rural South.[dubious – discuss] It also maintains a significantly different biodiversity than the rest of the state.[citation needed]North Florida has fall foliage.
