This is a list of past and present justices of the Supreme Court of the United States. Both Associate Justices and Chief Justices are nominated by the President of the United States and confirmed by the United States Senate.

The following table lists the terms of all of the Supreme Court since 1789 placed in the order in which the justices took the judicial oath of office and thereby began their term of office. Two Justices, Robert H. Harrison and Edwin Stanton, were appointed to the court but never served and therefore are not listed. Robert H. Harrison was one of the original justices appointed to the court by George Washington, but declined to serve. Edwin Stanton was appointed by Ulysses S. Grant, but died before taking office, taking the oath on his death bed.
