West coast of Australia as a synonym for the state of Western Australia.

In Canada, "West Coast" is a reference to the British Columbia Coast and also to the culture and lifestyle of Vancouver, Victoria and area. Within British Columbia itself, the term may mean either the outer coast of Vancouver Island or the common geographic identity and culture historically shared with the US states of Washington, Oregon and California, i.e. referring to the the West Coast of North America, not just that of Canada.
